MEXICO WEATHER VERY DRY AT START OF BEAN PLANTING SEASON

Mexico is currently behind in precipitation for the spring summer dry bean cycle and experiencing above average temperatures. Planting season in the five states we follow: Zacatecas, Durango, Chihuahua, San Luis Potosi and Guanajuato is delayed, due to the lack of precipitation. Although planting dates in Zacatecas, Durango and Chihuahua can be extended after the recommended planting season which ends this week, beans will be at the risk of an early frost and erratic rainfall during the growing season. According to Mexican government sources, the programmed production for 2019, is projected to be 50 thousand MT higher than 2018  but due to weather conditions, this is in question. Producers in Zacatecas are still fighting with the government to obtain the 2018 Bean Support money from the price guarantees that President AMLO promised. Producers in Durango are starting to announce they will probably plant barley instead of beans and corn since they have not had good soil conditions for beans. Our initial planting projection report with detailed numbers will be out at the end of August.
