Both planting and harvest area for black beans has been significantly reduced due to a) conversion to soy beans and low market prices. The planting and harvest area for dark red kidney beans (DRK) has increased 35% up from 2018 due to: high domestic demand for DRK, and decreased planting and harvest area in 2018, down 20% from 2017. Market demand for high grade (also called canned grade) DRK has been high. More exporters have been prepared to switch their export business to import. We will issue another final production report at the end of the month.
